Studio Twenty Seven Architecture to assist in creating new villages in Haiti

sketch.jpg
Helping Haitian Angels is working with Studio Twenty Seven Architecture to design a prototypical orphanage complex in Haiti. HHA is undertaking a long term master plan to build five of these villages over the next ten years to support orphans throughout Haiti. The charity is procuring twelve hectares in the northwestern part of the county and is building a school, church, and ten residences. Groundbreaking is scheduled for July 22, 2012, the fourth anniversary of the founding of Helping Haitian Angels and the adoption of the first orphans. All aspects of the community will be fully sustainable, and construction methodologies will be based on regional material and support local labor sources. For donations to HHA, please visit Helping Haitian Angels.

The Studio has started work on the renovation of the historic District of Columbia Ross Public School. Located at 1730 R Street NW in the heart of Dupont Circle, the building is a classic red brick school house. Studio Twenty Seven Architecture, along with joint venture partner Leo A Daly, will master plan the long term development of the school and site as well as prepare documentation to improve the classrooms and common areas this next summer. The building features a Ledoux-inspired plan with a central circulation axis and a classroom in each of the four corners.
