The Studio delves into Southwest's history as a site of urban experimentation and projects a vision of its future. Redevelopment of Southwest requires thoughtful consideration of forces of change that are just becoming apparent. Our research and exploration is a process intended to encourage all stakeholders in Southwest and the District to reconsider old grand plans and question the many different visions for the future. Our propositions are not discrete objects, like the city itself they will continue to change, update, and re-frame.

We invite you to explore our installation at Filter Coffeehouse (Foggy Bottom) and engage in our ongoing conversation about Washington, DC's urban evolution.

This study model explores how individual two story housing units can be arranged on a site to create shared common areas of various degrees of privacy. While the efficiencies of this approach have been well known since Le Corbusier's Unite' d'Habitation was built in the 1940s, this design can also help strengthen a sense of community. The shared common areas provide additional opportunities for residents to meet and interact with their neighbors. Studio Twenty Seven Architecture has been approached by an innovative developer currently studying this approach as a means to provide more attractive and affordable dwelling units than those currently found in the region.
