Date: 2012 – 2015
Area: 11,215 ft² / 1,041 m²

Montgomery County, MD

The simple design is consistent with the client’s restrained taste and request for abundant natural light and simple volumetric space. While the house is austere, it is not formal. The interior spaces flow together without formal arrangement and the material palette consists of only brick, wood and glass. Recreation areas are featured both in the basement and outside. The Owner embraced the process and for the first time, worked as the project’s general contractor.

A simple plan diagram informs the massing of this new house project. The house consists of two volumes, a rectangle and a square, skewed apart to create a central entrance passageway that focuses attention to the outside. The rectangular volume contains sleeping, eating and living functions, while the square volume contains home offices and a guest room.
