Gallaudet University Residence Hall Renovations Garner Inform Magazine, Remodeling Magazine Awards

Press—————7 May 2014

Studio Twenty Seven’s collaboration with Gallaudet University has been recognized with two awards this spring. The Gallaudet project took home the Better Living and Universal Design Award from Remodeling Magazine. The project also won an award in the “Object” category from Inform. Inform lauded our “milled insertions” that serve as focal and gathering points throughout the five dormitories. These components were designed with Gallaudet’s DeafSpace Guidelines in mind, creating visual centers that encourage interaction and communication without being distracting. “The design, material, and finishes – along with spatial articulation and visual rhythms – define a comfortable and inviting setting,” the Inform jury wrote. “This project receives an award for great design and insertion of exquisite furniture-quality interventions. This design explores the enhancement of four of the five senses and evokes an awareness of relationships among occupants who share a very personal common bond.”

Thanks to the leadership team of Gallaudet University and Brailsford & Dunlavey!
