La Casa Ribbon Cutting

News—————23 December 2014

On December 11, DC Mayor Vincent Gray joined Department of Human Services (DHS) Interim Director Deborah Carroll, Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) Director Stephen Baron, The Community Partnership (TCP) Executive Director Sue Marshall, Friendship Place Executive Director Jean-Michel Giraud, and program participant Denver Hawkins to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the La Casa Housing Facility.

Located at 1444 Irving St. NW, La Casa Permanent Supportive Housing will employ the “housing first” service model to provide permanent supportive housing and comprehensive in-house case management for 40 highly vulnerable homeless men.

This new, state-of-the-art 40-unit apartment building is an innovative solution to chronic homelessness in DC. “I look forward to the opening of La Casa with excitement and anticipation,” said Sue Marshall, Executive Director of The Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness.  “La Casa is a symbol of what community truly means. The concept is much more than housing; it is providing our homeless population with the dignity and respect they deserve,” said La Casa Assistant Director, Brooke Lyle.
