Maya Angelou Schools Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

News—————9 January 2015

The Board of Directors, staff of the See Forever Foundation and special guest Colin Johnson, grandson of Dr. Maya Angelou, officially opened the doors to the new Maya Angelou Public Charter High School and Young Adult Learning Center.

The See Forever Foundation was established to create learning communities in under-served urban areas where all students, particularly those who have not succeeded in traditional schools, can strive for academic excellence. For this multi-phased, design-build project, Forrester Construction and Studio Twenty Seven renovated an existing educational facility to house the Maya Angelou Public Charter School’s programs.

This facility is designed to be LEED certified, including new and remodeled classrooms, upgraded science labs, a flexible workshop, an improved library, administrative offices, a new commercial kitchen, a renovated cafeteria and enhanced common space areas. Construction required demolition, abatement and renovation of interior spaces. The project featured extensive utility work and replacement of public water mains and HVAC systems. The exterior received new windows and doors throughout, a roof screen system and a modernized fire alarm system.
