Mundo Verde PCS’s buildings receive Gold and Platinum LEED designations

News—————20 October 2016

Many congratulations to the Mundo Verde PCS community! Their two buildings, a renovated historic Elementary School and new Pre-K annex, have been designated LEED Gold and LEED Platinum, respectively. Sustainability is central to Mundo Verde’s educational mission.

Read about the Mundo Verde and the new campus (in both English and Spanish!) in Fragment 08:

Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School is a sustainability-focused public charter school located in the District of Columbia. Awarded a shuttered 1920’s-era school building and site by the District in 2013, Mundo Verde had a direct question for the design team: “How can this redevelopment and addition project teach our students to be global stewards?”

This Fragment documents the collaboration of the Mundo Verde community with the Studio Twenty Seven Architecture team as a model for designing sustainable schools of any size and at any budget. It is our hope that school administrators, teachers, parents, designers, and builders can use this publication as both an inspiration and a resource.

Fragment is an episodic publication of Studio Twenty Seven Architecture. Each issue is dedicated to a singular idea, project, or element associated with the Art of Architecture published to foster future dialogues on architecture.
