The new 10,000 square feet annex, called “La Casita,” serves Pre-K and Kindergarten-aged students and attained USGBC LEED Platinum certification. Overall, the new combined campus accommodates 500 total students.
Mundo Verde’s expeditionary curriculum inspires the design of the campus. Students can take advantage of garden classrooms comprised of indigenous plants that support migratory birds and butterflies and vegetable gardens that are harvested and supplement meals served in the school cafeteria. Both buildings have high-efficiency lighting and mechanical systems and low-flow plumbing fixtures. The facilities are equipped with light-harvesting technology and a greywater system. The greywater system will save over 300,000 gallons of water per year.
